Perfect weather and a mellow trail made for a pleasant camping trip on Mt. Hood. Participants: Stu Pidass, msglow, Jo and Andy, Mosi and Mindie, Slime Dog and Chris, Dusti, Dave and Laura, Scott and Aiden, and Pete.
We met for lunch at the Ice Axe Grill in Government Camp and got an early afternoon start on Barlow from the top. Almost immediately, we rode up on some folks on horseback. They were with a group of 70+ people in covered wagons, on horseback, and on foot in a Wagon Train group. They assured us that they’d find a wide spot to pull aside and let us through, but an hour later we were still stuck behind them. When someone in that group got stepped on by a horse twice and stopped the whole group’s forward movement, we decided to turn back and drive down a paved road to hop back in front of that group. We accomplished that, but then ran into trees across the road. Jaunted down a little further, and ran into more trees. Third time was a charm and we continued on to our campsite. There were no major obstacles on the trail. There was one tight squeeze for the Gen II Xs between halves of a felled tree.
Camp was warm and windy. Great campfire and even better company. Thanks for a great weekend!
